DEERFIELD BEACH, FL - The Broward Sheriff's Office said it is investigating a fatal pedestrian accident that occurred recently in Deerfield Beach.
The victim, identified as 78-year-old Wladyslawa Poplawska of Deerfield Beach, was struck and killed by a pickup truck Aug. 27 at about 8 a.m.
Investigators determined that the driver of a Ford F-150 pickup was traveling eastbound on West Drive and stopped at the stop sign at Newport Drive. As the driver proceeded through the intersection, Poplawska was walking within the marked crosswalk trying to cross the roadway from north to south when she was hit by the vehicle.
Broward Sheriff’s Office Fire Rescue transported Poplawska to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead the following day.
The BSO said the driver stopped immediately, stayed at the scene, and cooperated with the investigation.
