Jack Hickey Recertified by the National Board of Trial Advocacy

Hickey Law Firm is proud to announce that firm founder John H. (Jack) Hickey has been recertified by the National Board of Trial Advocacy (NBTA).

The recertification recognizes Jack’s continued trial experience, legal knowledge and commitment to the professional standards required of an NBTA board-certified attorney.

What NBTA recertification means

NBTA certification is a national board certification and the only national board certification available to trial lawyers. Board certification is different from an award or membership in a professional organization. Attorneys seeking certification must document their experience, demonstrate their knowledge and undergo a professional review.

NBTA board-certified specialists are evaluated for professionalism and tested for expertise, and certification is valid for five years. Jack’s national NBTA certification is based in part on his state-level Civil Trial Law certification from The Florida Bar. That certification requires attorneys to complete a set number of trials on an ongoing basis, pass a two-day examination and undergo peer review by lawyers and judges who can attest to their trial experience and qualifications.

To become recertified in Civil Trial Law, an attorney must remain in good standing and continue to meet the NBTA’s requirements. These include ongoing civil litigation experience, continuing legal education and confidential reviews from judges and attorneys familiar with the applicant’s work.

The recertification process also considers an attorney’s professional conduct, integrity and dedication to clients.

More about Jack Hickey

Jack is a triple board-certified trial lawyer:

  • Civil Trial Law by the National Board of Trial Advocacy
  • Civil Trial Law by The Florida Bar
  • Admiralty and Maritime Law by The Florida Bar

He represents people and families in personal injury and wrongful death cases involving cruise ship accidents, boating collisions, motor vehicle crashes, medical malpractice, unsafe premises and defective products.

Before he began representing injured people, Jack defended cruise lines, corporations and insurance companies. That experience gave him insight into how these organizations evaluate claims, prepare cases and respond to litigation.

Jack has been appointed to the American Association for Justice’s Sections and Litigation Groups Coordinating Committee (SLGCC) for a three-year term and recently received the Richard D. Hailey Award for outstanding service to AAJ.

Hickey Law Firm congratulates Jack on meeting the National Board of Trial Advocacy’s requirements for recertification and earning this distinction once again.
