News: Teen killed when SUV hits disabled car on I-95 in West Palm Beach

WEST PALM BEACH, FL – A teenager was killed when an SUV struck a disabled car on Interstate 95, state troopers said.

According to WPTV, the incident happened at about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday on I-95, north near the 45th Street exit in West Palm Beach.

The Florida Highway Patrol said the 17-year-old was a passenger in a car driven by an 18-year-old man. The car had a mechanical issue and became disabled in the center lane of the interstate.

A 30-year-old Palm Beach Gardens woman driving north in an SUV attempted to swerve out of the way, but was unable to avoid crashing into the back of the car.  The 17-year-old, a West Palm Beach resident, was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.  The driver of the car, also from West Palm Beach, sustained minor injuries. The SUV driver was not hurt.

The wreck remains under investigation by the FHP.
