Cruise Ship Worker Hid Cameras in Guests’ Rooms
Cruise ship worker Arvin Joseph Mirasol received a 30-year sentence this week after pleading guilty to producing child pornography. From December 2023 until his arrest in March 2024, the 34-year-old citizen of the Philippines installed hidden cameras in guests’ bathrooms aboard the Royal Caribbean’s Symphony of the Seas.
It’s possible that Mirasol filmed hundreds of RCCL cruise passengers. The U.S. Attorney might not have identified or contacted all of the victims. Hickey Law Firm is now representing affected families.
Videos depicted children ages 2-17
A guest on the Symphony of the Seas found a hidden camera in the sink in their bathroom on February 25, 2024, and reported it to the ship’s security. The authorities on the ship detained Mirasol until they docked on March 3, at which point he was arrested.
Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) investigated and seized Mirasol’s electronics. The devices contained images and videos of children undressing, with the cameras focused on the area of the genitals. According to the HSI, the ages of the identified children ranged from two to 17.
What to do if you believe that you might be impacted
Families that traveled on the Symphony of the Seas should identify whether Mirasol was their cabin steward to find out if they might have been impacted. If you believe you or your family could have been photographed or videotaped in your cabin or bathroom, you should reach out to the Hickey Law Firm. We are representing families who were violated by Mirasol’s actions in claims against RCCL. Call us or fill out our contact form to schedule a consultation.
