Two Dead and 10 Injured In Key Biscayne Boat Collision

Two people were killed and 10 people were injured in a boat collision off of Biscayne Bay Friday night.

CNN.com reports that the incident occurred when two vessels collided near the Nixon Beach Sandbar at about 10:30 p.m., ejecting approximately a dozen people into the water.

The US Coast Guard responded to the emergency, sending an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter aircrew to the scene. The Coast Guard was able to rescue 10 people and transport them to HCA Florida Mercy Hospital. The Coast Guard also recovered one body while Miami-Dade Fire Rescue recovered another.

In a statement Lieut. Cmdr. Benjamin Tuxhorn with Coast Guard Sector Miami said “On behalf of the Coast Guard and our partner agencies, we’d like to offer our sincerest condolences to the families and friends who lost their loved ones.”

Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is undertaking the investigation into the collision.
