South Florida Man Arrested for High-Speed Crash That Killed Three

Florida authorities have arrested a South Florida man in connection with a traffic collision that killed three people including a pregnant woman and her unborn child.

Local10.com reports that on the night of May 1, 2020, 35-year-old Miami resident Tomas Javier Rodriguez was driving approximately 109 mph on Northeast 8th Street when he ran a red light at the intersection of Northeast 33rd Avenue, crashing into two cars.

Rodriguez first struck a 2015 infinity Q50 that was occupied by three passengers including a woman who was eight months pregnant. The crash killed 23-year-old Joshua Nicholas Guerra, who authorities pronounced dead at the scene. First responders rushed 28-year-old Krystine Aras to Jackson South in an attempt to save her life and that of her baby with whom she was eight months pregnant at the time of the crash. Tragically, both died at the hospital. Another passenger, 30-year-old Lunane Castellano, survived despite suffering severe injuries.

Following the crash, authorities determined that Rodriguez had been legally drunk, with a blood alcohol content over three times the legal limit.

Authorities have arrested Rodriguez and charged him with three counts of DUI manslaughter and three counts of vehicular homicide, among other charges.
