News: Pedestrian fatally struck by 2 vehicles in Pompano Beach hit-and-run

POMPANO BEACH, FL – The Broward County Sheriff’s Office says it is investigating a hit-and-run crash that killed a pedestrian in Pompano Beach.

The victim, identified as 35-year-old James Bates, was found by a passerby lying in the 1400 block of Northwest 15th Avenue Thursday morning just before 4:30 a.m.

Traffic homicide detectives determined that Bates was struck initially by a vehicle that fled the scene. While he was disoriented in the roadway, he was hit by another vehicle that also left the area.  Bates was pronounced dead two hours later after being rushed to Broward Health North.

The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact the Broward Sheriff’s Office.
