News: Pedestrian dies following hit-and-run crash in Pompano Beach

POMPANO BEACH, FL – Authorities said a pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run crash in Pompano Beach last week.

In a news release, the Broward Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to the scene Thursday on West Atlantic Boulevard after the incident was reported shortly after 10 p.m.

Investigators believe the pedestrian, an adult male, was crossing West Atlantic Boulevard when he was hit by a vehicle. The driver stopped for a short time before leaving the scene.

While lying in the roadway, the victim was then struck by a second vehicle.  That driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators.

The pedestrian, whose name was not released, was pronounced dead by first responders.  He was not in a designated crosswalk at the time he was hit by the first vehicle, the sheriff’s office said.

Traffic Homicide Unit detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.  Anyone with further information was asked to contact the BSO.
