News: Passenger dies after driver loses control on tracks in Pompano Beach

POMPANO BEACH, FL – The Broward County Sheriff’s Office has released details of crash in Pompano Beach last week that killed a passenger. 

Deputies with the sheriff’s office arrived at the scene in the 1400 block of West Atlantic Boulevard just after 2 a.m. Tuesday. Investigators determined that 21-year-old Lesly Maza of Hollywood, Florida was driving a Lexus IS250 sedan at a high rate of speed when she lost control after traveling over railroad tracks west of I-95.

The Lexus rotated, slid, and entered the median before crashing into two street signs and a tree.  The car kept sliding toward the westbound lanes of West Atlantic Boulevard and then came to rest.

Two passengers in the car were rushed to Broward Health North. They have been identified as 32-year-old Alicia Cruz of Miami Beach, and 21-year-old Olivia Frolka of Rochester Hills, Michigan. Frolka died at the hospital several hours later.

The sheriff’s office is continuing to investigate the crash.
