News: Man charged with vehicular homicide for Fort Lauderdale crash that killed pedestrian

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL – A man has been charged with vehicular homicide in connection with a fatal pedestrian accident in Fort Lauderdale last November, NBC Miami reports.

26-year-old Jeffrey Genner Dorval of Lauderdale Lakes was arrested on Tuesday and made his first court appearance in the case on Wednesday.

Authorities said Dorval was speeding while driving a BMW on Northwest 11th Street on Nov. 25 and collided with a Hyundai Elentra that was going north on Northwest 5th Avenue.  The impact caused the Hyundai to hit and kill a pedestrian standing near the intersection.  Dorval was allegedly driving 54 miles an hour in a 30 mile an hour zone when the accident occurred.

Prosecutors said Dorval was convicted in a previous crash in 2015 on charges that included reckless driving, and was also involved in another crash in Feb. 2022 in which he ran a stop sign while speeding.

Dorval was being held in the Broward County Jail on bonds totaling $60,000.
