News: Man charged with DUI manslaughter in deadly 2019 crash in Fort Lauderdale

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL – An arrest report states that police have made an arrest in the case of a fatal crash in Fort Lauderdale on Nov. 22, 2019, according to NBC Miami.

The suspect was identified as 40-year-old Christopher Eastes. He is facing multiple criminal charges, including DUI manslaughter and vehicular homicide.

The arrest affidavit said Eastes was driving a Jeep on Interstate 95 south when he got off at the Davie Boulevard exit and disobeyed the red light at the end of the exit ramp. The Jeep then crashed into a Honda driven by 22-year-old Anthony Daniel Torres-Loughan. The impact caused both vehicles to hit a third vehicle.

Torres-Loughan was thrown from the Honda and pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the third vehicle was seriously injured while Eastes sustained minor injuries.

Eastes’s blood alcohol content at the time of the crash was more than twice the state’s legal limit, the affidavit said.

He was arrested on Monday and was being held without bond in jail.
