News: Man arrested after crashing into 2 Florida Highway Patrol cruisers

MIAMI GARDENS, FL – A man was taken into custody after authorities said he crashed into two Florida Highway Patrol cruisers in Miami Gardens on Friday afternoon.

WSVN reports the suspect was 26-year-old Joseph Charles Sanders Jr., a resident of Mississippi.  The incident began when a trooper attempted to stop Sanders in the vicinity of State Road 826 and Northwest 67th Avenue, but had to call for assistance.

After a brief pursuit, the FHP said Sanders crashed his Honda SUV into a marked patrol vehicle with a trooper inside at Northwest 159th Street and 49th Avenue at about 4 p.m.  Sanders’ SUV then collided with another FHP cruiser, authorities said.

He tried to get away on foot but was arrested a short time later. One of the troopers whose vehicle was hit sustained minor injuries.
