News: Former Vero Beach mayor hospitalized after being hit by pickup truck

VERO BEACH, FL – The former mayor of Vero Beach was struck and injured by a pickup truck Monday morning, TC Palm reports.

69-year-old Laura Moss was hospitalized after the incident.  Police said she was crossing the southbound lane of Cardinal Drive at about 8:30 a.m. after leaving a restaurant when she was hit by the pickup that was going 10 miles an hour.

Moss, who is currently an Indian River County commissioner, was knocked to the ground and became unconscious.  She suffered a concussion and was taken to an area hospital, where she was held overnight for observation.

The driver of the pickup, 20-year-old Jeremy Sapp of Vero Beach, was cited for careless driving.  No criminal charges were filed.
