News: Driver fatally struck by SUV after pulling over on Florida’s Turnpike

PALM BEACH COUNTY, FL – A man was fatally struck by a vehicle after he had pulled over on Florida’s Turnpike Tuesday evening, state troopers said.

The South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports the accident happened near Yamato Road west of Boca Raton in Palm Beach County.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a man driving a pickup truck developed engine trouble at about 6:15 p.m. and pulled over onto a shoulder of the turnpike at mile marker 78. As he was outside the vehicle checking the engine, he was struck and killed by an SUV that had veered onto the shoulder.

The victim was a 44-year-old Miami man whose name was not released.

The SUV driver, a 40-year-old man from Delray Beach, sustained minor injuries.  Six passengers who were in the pickup were not hurt.
