News: Driver charged with hitting North Miami Beach police officer

NORTH MIAMI BEACH, FL – A driver has been arrested and charged in a crash in Aventura last week that injured a North Miami Beach police officer, according to WPLG.

This is an update to a previous story.

The suspect, identified as 19-year-old Cynthia Muthike Muisyo, is charged with second-degree attempted murder.

Police said she was fleeing a previous hit-and-run involving two other vehicles in the area of Northeast 172nd Street and Biscayne Boulevard when she struck a police officer who tried to stop her. Police said shots were fired after the woman attempted to flee again, and she was apprehended.

The officer was seriously injured and transported to Aventura Hospital and Medical Center. Muisyo was treated at the same hospital.

After being released, she was lodged in the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.  The officer was released from the hospital Saturday.
