FORT PIERCE, FL - A driver died after his car was involved in a multi-vehicle accident on Florida's Turnpike early Sunday morning, according to WPEC.

The incident took place on the turnpike's northbound lanes near Orange Avenue in Fort Pierce shortly before 4 a.m.

The Florida Highway Patrol said a 54-year-old Davie man was driving north when he rear-ended a sedan that was going slowly or had stopped in the left lane.

The sedan went off the road and overturned, while the first vehicle spun out and was hit by a pickup truck. The Davie man was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 21-year-old Tallahassee man who was driving the sedan was seriously injured, while a 64-year-old Lantana man driving the pickup was not hurt.

The FHP is continuing its investigation into the wreck.
