News: Arrest made in Wilton Manors hit-and-run that killed 2 children

WILTON MANORS, FL – The Broward County Sheriff’s Office announced it has made an arrest in a hit-and-run crash that killed two children and injured four others in Wilton Manors on Monday afternoon.

This is an update to a previous story.

The suspected driver, 27-year-old Sean Charles Greer of Wilton Manors, was booked into jail Tuesday evening.

Police and rescue crews responded to the area of Northwest 9th Avenue and Northwest 24th Street outside an apartment building after the crash took place at about 2:50 p.m.

Investigators determined that Greer was driving a Honda Accord sedan south on Northwest 9th Avenue at the same time a Broward County Transit bus had stopped to drop off a passenger.

As the bus pulled out to continue southbound, Greer approached from behind, failed to allow the bus to merge and passed it, according to the sheriff’s office.  He allegedly veered right, drove off the road and onto a sidewalk, where he struck a group of six children.

Authorities said he then accelerated and fled the scene heading south after the crash.

Two of the children who were struck, ages 6 and 5, were pronounced dead at the scene, while four others were taken to Broward Health Medical Center.

The vehicle involved in the incident was identified through physical evidence at the scene and additional information.  The sheriff’s office said the evidence led them to Greer, who confessed to his involvement after being arrested.

He now faces numerous charges, including leaving the scene of an accident involving death, leaving the scene of an accident involving serious bodily injury, and tampering with evidence.  He was on probation for burglary in Broward County.
