News: 5-year-old boy dies after being hit by vehicle in Lauderdale Lakes

LAUDERDALE LAKES, FL – The Broward Sheriff’s Office reports it is investigating a crash that killed a 5-year-old child in Lauderdale Lakes on Sunday evening.

Authorities responded to the scene in the area of 2225 Northwest 32nd Terrace after the incident was reported at about 6 p.m. Detectives determined that the boy had been playing at a nearby residence and then ran into the roadway directly into the path of a Honda Pilot that was heading south on Northwest 32nd Terrace.

The child was struck by the passenger side front bumper of the vehicle. He was pronounced dead after being rushed to Plantation General Hospital.

The driver, 29-year-old Fadline Petit of Lauderdale Lakes, stopped immediately and tried to render aid after the crash, the sheriff’s office said.  She stayed and cooperated with detectives.

Investigators do not believe impairment, excessive speed or mechanical malfunction were contributing factors in the incident.
