News: 2 killed, 3 injured when car goes off road, crashes into canal in West Broward

WEST BROWARD, FL – A car accident on Alligator Alley Tuesday night left two people dead and three others injured, according to WSVN.

The Florida Highway Patrol said a driver was headed west near mile marker 29 in West Broward County at about 5:30 p.m. when the car’s back left tire blew out. The driver lost control and the vehicle went off the roadway, plunging into a canal where it became partially submerged.  Rescue crews and good Samaritans entered the canal to help those in the car.

Two women, the 47-year-old driver and a 22-year-old passenger, were pulled from the vehicle by rescuers and taken to area hospitals, where both were pronounced dead.

Three others in the car, including two 2-year-old children, sustained minor injuries and were taken to Broward Health. All five occupants of the car were from North Fort Myers.
