News: 1 driver killed, 1 hospitalized following Cooper City wreck

COOPER CITY, FL – The Broward Sheriff’s Office said one driver was killed and another injured in a crash in Cooper City Saturday evening.

Investigators said 74-year-old Ellen Philomena McGuire of Pembroke Pines was driving a Honda Civic sometime before 5:49 p.m.as she headed south exiting a plaza to turn east onto Sheridan Street.  McGuire pulled into the path of a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck driven by 79-year-old Harold Beharry of Davie.

Though Beharry tried to stop, the vehicles collided, with one vehicle coming to rest in the eastbound lanes of Sheridan Street and the other ending up in the southbound lanes.

McGuire died Sunday morning at Memorial Regional Hospital, while Beharry was hospitalized with injuries.

Broward Sheriff’s Office traffic homicide detectives are investigating the crash, and do not believe excessive speed or impairment were contributing factors.
