More Information on South Florida Bicyclists Killed By SUV Sunday Afternoon

Authorities have identified the two bicyclists who were killed on the Rickenbacker Causeway Sunday.

WSVN.com reports that the victims were a couple, 49-year-old Yaudys Vera and 46-year-old Ogniana Reyes.

The couple was struck and killed by an SUV just before 5 p.m. Sunday in the area of the toll plaza.

Following the crash, police detained the vehicle that struck the couple and questioned its driver. In a statement, Miami police indicated they are continuing to investigate. “The driver remained on the scene,” “He cooperated with us, and this case is still open and ongoing, but he was given several citations on scene. It’s a tragic accident,” said Miami Police officer Michael Vega.

Ironically, in the coming days, South Florida bicyclists will ride to remember those who have been killed riding their bikes on South Florida roads.
