Two Hospitalized Following Boat’s Collision With Draw Bridge

Two people were hospitalized following a boat crash on the Ortega River Friday night.

News4Jax.com reports that six people were on board the boat when it attempted to cross under the Ortega Bridge as the draw bridge was coming down. Apparently, as the boat’s driver attempted to cross under the bridge the boat did not make it under the bridge in time. The boat and the bridge collided, causing significant damage to the boat.

The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department reports that the collision left at least two people injured, one seriously.

Investigators indicated that they would have to inspect the bridge before raising it again. The News4Jax report indicates that people at the station noticed the bridge raised later Friday night.
