Authorities have arrested a New York man and extradited him to South Florida in connection with a fatal crash.

Local10.com reports that authorities arrested 24-year-old Oion Johnson of Syracuse, New York in connection with a May 2021 crash that left a bicyclist dead in Weston, Florida. Apparently, Johnson claimed that he fell asleep behind the wheel of a 2014 Kia Optima before colliding with 44-year-old Sunny LaValle.

According to deputies with Broward Sheriff’s Office Johnson had been consuming alcohol before the crash.

“At the time of the crash, he had just fallen asleep for the first time, and that’s when he drifted off the road and he struck and killed the victim who was riding her bicycle,” said prosecutor Ross Weiner.
