A Florida Highway Patrol officer is accused of striking and killing a teenage cyclist during a vehicle crash in South Florida last week.

Local10.com reports that Trooper Aliek Sierra of the Florida Highway Patrol struck and killed 17-year-old Angel Lopez as the victim attempted to cross Killian Parkway near Southwest 108th Avenue. As Lopez exited a bus and attempted to cross the road he was nearly struck by a vehicle, which nearly missed him. He was then hit by Trooper Sierra who was driving his cruiser at the time.

36-year-old Trooper Sierra has been with the Florida Highway Patrol for nine years, reports Local 10. He was not harmed in the incident.
