Second Brightline Collision Fatality In Two Days

It’s getting difficult to keep up with all of the Brightline train collisions. After a fatal crash in Pompano Beach on Monday Brightline was involved in another fatal collision on Tuesday.

WSVN.com reports that the crash occurred near Garfield Street and North Dixie Highway when a train slammed into a Jeep.

Though the exact details of the collision are not clear, a witness said that the driver of the Jeep attempted to cross the train tracks as the barriers were going down.

“They see the signs, they see the barriers down, and apparently the guy tried to do a zig-zag to get around the barriers…Why would he do that? You can see the train coming. He was traveling in the same direction as the train, so he knows the train is coming,” said witness Yacob Nabo.

Though Good Samaritans attempted to assist the driver following the crash, including pulling him from the damaged vehicle, the victim died from his injuries.

As we blogged yesterday, there have been approximately 60 fatal collisions involving Brightline train since 2017. 2022 has been a particularly active year for Brightline train collisions with some weeks seeing multiple incidents.
