Scooter Driver Critically Injured in Brickell Bridge Hit-and-Run

A driver is under arrest after authorities accused him of striking a scooter driver on Wednesday night in Brickell.

Local10.com reports that the collision occurred at about 8:50 p.m. when 29-year-old Cristian David Acmendariz-Moreta was driving his blue BMW across the Brickell Avenue Bridge.

A man was traveling southward on his scooter when Acmendariz-Moreta allegedly struck him and continued driving without stopping to help the victim. Florida law requires drivers to stop and remain at the scene after being involved in a traffic collision.

The crash left the victim seriously injured, and first responders transported him to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center in critical condition.

Authorities located Acmendariz-Moreta about 20 minutes after the crash and arrested him following two failed breathalyzer tests.
