Police have arrested a man who they suspect of striking and killing a bicyclist just before the Christmas holiday.

WSVN.com reports that police arrested 35-year-old George Luis Amparo after his family members noticed that his SUV had been damaged shortly after learning of the bicyclist's death. Amparo allegedly struck 44-year-old Mark James as Amparo was driving home at about 6:45 a.m. On December 20th.

According to the report, Amparo was driving south on Northwest 12th Avenue when he allegedly struck James near 51st Street. Instead of remaining at the scene as is required by Florida law, police allege Amparo fled without rendering aid to the victim.

Amparo’s family became suspicious after seeing a news report of the tragedy and then noticing the damage to his car.

Police have arrested Amparo and charged him with leaving the scene of a fatal crash.
