One Child Killed and Two Others Injured in Sarasota Recreational Boating Crash

A child is dead following a boating crash during a youth sailing practice in Sarasota over the weekend.

ABCActionNews.com reports that the incident occurred at about 11:30 a.m. on Saturday when two vessels apparently collided just north of the Ringling Causeway as they were participating in a youth sailing practice. The child victim suffered serious injuries and rescue workers rushed him to a medical facility where he later died from his injuries.

Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) did not provide the victim’s name but did indicate that the crash injured at least two other youths. “Upon further investigation, the FWC has learned that two additional juveniles were injured during this incident. Both juveniles received medical care for their non-life-threatening injuries,” they said.

The victim was reportedly 10-years-old.

FWC continues to investigate the tragedy.
