News:Motorcycle rider killed in collision with vehicle in Deerfield Beach

DEERFIELD BEACH, FL – A fatal collision in Deerfield Beach earlier this month remains under investigation, the Broward Sheriff’s Office said.

BSO detectives responded to the scene June 15 at the intersection of Northeast 48th Street and North Dixie Highway after the incident was reported at about 8:47 p.m.

The initial investigation indicated that a male juvenile was driving a Ford Escape SUV south on North Dixie Highway in the designated left turn lane and made a left turn into the path of a Triumph Bonneville motorcycle going north on North Dixie Highway.

The motorcycle rider hit the brakes but could not avoid a collision.  The motorcycle driver and a passenger were ejected from the bike and taken to a local hospital. The motorcycle driver, an adult male, was pronounced dead on June 21.  No details were released on the condition of the passenger, an adult woman.

The driver of the Ford Escape was taken into custody.

Investigators do not believe impairment or excessive speed were contributing factors in the wreck.
