The accident occurred on the Dolphin Expressway (State Road 836) near 17th Avenue at about 7 a.m.  Troopers said the driver of a Hyundai was going east in the westbound lanes of the roadway and crashed head-on into a Nissan sedan, according to WPLG.

The Nissan driver died at the scene, while the Hyundai driver was critically injured and taken to Ryder Trauma Center.
