News: Suspect under arrest in Sunrise hit-and-run that killed bicycle rider

SUNRISE, FL – Authorities have announced an arrest in connection with a fatal hit-and-run crash in Sunrise last Friday morning, reports NBC Miami.

This is an update to a previous story.

Police said a bicyclist and a Chevrolet Equinox were both going north in the 3500 block of Nob Hill Road when the car hit the bicycle rider at about 6:30 a.m.

The victim, whose name has not yet been released, was pronounced dead after being rushed to Broward Health Medical Center.

A witness reported seeing the Equinox leaving the scene at high speed after the accident.  The suspected driver, 44-year-old Devin Daniel Doers, was arrested Sunday on multiple charges, including failure to remain at the scene of an accident causing death, reckless driving, and tampering with or destroying physical evidence.

Police said a bumper bracket with a serial number was left behind after the crash that helped them identify the vehicle involved in the accident, which was registered to Doers. He eventually admitted to striking the bicyclist and leaving the scene, investigators said.

WPLG reports Doers has had five DUI convictions since 1998.
