News: Police sergeant accused of driving under the influence in Broward County crash

HIALEAH, FL – The Florida State Patrol arrested a police sergeant following a car crash in Tamarac last week, according to WPLG.

Hialeah Sgt. Richard Quintero is charged with driving under the influence. The accident took place Nov. 11 on the the northbound lanes of the Sawgrass Expressway at about 5 a.m.

The FHP said Quintero, who was off-duty at the time, was driving an unmarked police car when he collided with a vehicle driven by a civilian. The other driver reported that Quintero had been speeding prior to the collision, and Quintero reportedly refused sobriety exercises after a trooper detected an odor of alcohol.

The 38-year-old Quintero is a 19 year veteran of the Hialeah Police Department currently assigned to the K-9 Unit.

CBS Miami reported that Quintero was relieved of duty and placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
