News: Passenger in disabled vehicle killed in SW Miami-Dade hit-and-run

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FL – State troopers said a person was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver along Florida’s Turnpike early Tuesday morning, according to WSVN.

The Florida Highway Patrol reported that a pickup truck had become disabled and pulled over in the turnpike’s northbound lanes near the exit for 216th Street shortly before 2:30 a.m. When a passenger in the vehicle got out to try and get help, they were struck by a white box truck.  The victim, whose identity was not released, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities said the driver of the box truck took off without stopping to help after the crash. The turnpike’s northbound lanes were closed for about three hours while the scene was being investigated.

Anyone with information regarding the incident was asked to contact Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers.
