News: Man dies after being involved in two Broward County crashes in one day

BROWARD COUNTY, FL – The Broward County Sheriff’s Office said a driver who left the scene of one crash and was then involved in another has died.

Both incidents occurred Feb. 25 in Pompano Beach. The man was identified as 29-year-old Joseph Riesen of Naples, Florida.

In the first incident, detectives said Riesen was involved in a minor crash near West Atlantic Boulevard and North Dixie Highway, but left the scene after initially agreeing to pull over and exchange information with the other driver.

Then at about 5:26 p.m. that day, Riesen was driving a GMC Terrain SUV at a high speed and failed to stop at a stop sign while approaching Northeast 11th Avenue, according to the sheriff’s office. That caused the driver of a Mazda 3 sedan to hit Riesen’s vehicle in a T-bone crash.

Riesen was ejected from his vehicle and taken to Broward Health North, where he died of his injuries this past Monday.

The driver of the Mazda, 24-year-old Toni-Ann Lawrence of Lauderdale Lakes, was taken to the same hospital but no information was released on her condition.
