News: Man charged with vehicular homicide in SW Miami-Dade accident

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FL – A driver has been arrested and charged in connection with a crash that killed three people in southwest Miami-Dade County last month, WPLG reports.

24-year-old Rodney Rodriguez of Hialeah is facing three counts of vehicular homicide for the Aug. 31 collision at Southwest 72nd Street and Southwest 92nd Avenue.

Police said Rodriguez was behind the wheel of a Range Rover Evoque when the vehicle collided with a Kia Forte driven by 49-year-old Karina Diaz.

The accident killed Diaz, a preschool teacher in Kendall, and two passengers – her husband, 51-year-old Adalberto Cereijo and her mother, 75-year-old Elena Chacon Diaz.

Police said Rodriguez had refused to stop when a police officer tried to pull him earlier for speeding on the Palmetto Expressway.  He took off and ended up crashing into the Kia after exiting onto Sunset Drive.
