News: Man arrested for fatal crash near Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood Airport

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL – Authorities have announced an arrest in a fatal accident that occurred in Broward County on Oct. 31, 2021, WPLG reports.

25-year-old Michael Crooks is facing a number of charges, including vehicular homicide, DUI causing death to a human, and DUI causing damage to property or a person.

Crooks was driving a Jeep Wrangler in the area of Interstate 595 and South Federal Highway near Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport when the crash took place at about 9 p.m.

According to investigators, Crooks failed to negotiate a curve on the exit ramp from I-595 to South Federal Highway and struck the back of a Toyota Tacoma traveling in the outside lane, causing it to roll over.

The Jeep then collided with a Toyota Corolla that was headed north on South Federal Highway.

Multiple people were thrown from the Jeep and one of the vehicle’s passengers, a woman, was hit by the Corolla.  She was pronounced dead at the scene.  Others who were in the Jeep were hospitalized.

Crooks was lodged in the Broward County Main Jail, where he was being held without bond.
