News: Alleged drunk driver facing charges in fatal Miramar wreck

MIRAMAR, FL – An alleged drunk driver was arrested Wednesday in connection with a deadly car accident in Miramar last summer, according to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.

42-year-old Brandon Lewis Swanson is facing several charges, including DUI manslaughter and vehicular homicide.  The accident took place Aug. 16 in the area of Southwest 19th Street and Southwest 136th Avenue.

Swanson was driving an Audi when he crashed into a van at the intersection. The collision killed one person in the van, 74-year-old Yelba Ramirez Icaza, and critically injured her husband, 81-year-old Nestor Javier Icaza.

Authorities said Swanson was driving 93 miles an hour in a 30 mile an hour zone when the crash occurred. Tests at the hospital where he was treated after the wreck showed his blood alcohol level was nearly twice the legal limit.

Swanson was booked in the Broward County Jail and ordered held without bond.
