MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FL – An accident in Southwest Miami-Dade County Sunday afternoon left one person dead and six others hospitalized.

WSVN reports a driver going in the wrong direction was involved in the multi-vehicle collision.  It happened on Quail Roost Drive near Southwest 113th Avenue at about 4:30 p.m.

Investigators determined that the driver of a Mercedes-Benz SUV was going east in the westbound lanes, leading to a crash that involved five vehicles.

The Florida Highway Patrol and local emergency crews responded to the scene of the incident. The FHP said a 58-year-old passenger in one of the vehicles was pronounced dead at the scene. His name was not released.

The victim’s father sustained injuries that were not life-threatening, and was taken to Kendall Regional Hospital.  Five other people were taken to area hospitals, but no details have been released on the extent of their injuries.

The roadway was shut down for at least five hours for the crash investigation.
