Mourners Hold Memorial for Teen Killed in Boat Crash

A high-speed boat crash over the weekend left one teen dead and several others hurt. On Monday the family and friends of the deceased teen victim held a memorial to remember her.

16-year-old Rachel Herring and six other people were ejected from the boat in which they were riding in the early Sunday morning hours. The group of seven teens had been returning from a large party on Halloween when the boat’s pilot, reportedly another 16-year-old, steered the vessel into a steel channel marker. Authorities do not believe that the boat’s pilot was under the influence of intoxicants at the time of the collision.

On Monday, Herring’s loved ones gathered to remember her. Tampabay.com reports that approximately 200 people came together to share stories and memories about Rachel and to console one another.

Those in attendance included Herring’s family members and classmates. People remembered her as being kind and intelligent, and as one person put it, “the most beautiful girl and she had a heart of gold.”
