News: Passenger killed when boat slams into power pole in the Florida Keys
ISLAMORADA, FL – A passenger on board a boat was killed in an accident off the Florida Keys on Sunday afternoon, reports the Miami Herald.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said 60-year-old Martin Mohr was operating a 22-foot Hydra-Sport center console at about 4:45 p.m. when he lost control of the vessel and crashed into a concrete power line pole.
Mohr and the six passengers were thrown into the water. One passenger, identified as 48-year-old Jeffery Jones of Texas, was pronounced dead at the scene. The other six injured passengers were rescued and transported to the Indian Key boat ramp. No information was released on their conditions.
The FWC is investigating the cause of the accident. Officials said alcohol use was not a contributing factor.
