A four-year-old special-needs child died Saturday after he fell into a Miami-Dade canal.

WSVN.com reports that the child fell into the canal near Southwest 280th Terrace and 141st Avenue on Saturday afternoon when his mom took her eyes off of him.

The victim's mother left the boy alone in the home and later received a notification from her Ring security system but says she did not notice any movement. At about 12:50 p.m. she called 911 and reported her son missing.

After a search first responders located the boy's body in the canal.

Police are investigating the matter.
