News: Van driver fleeing from deputies crashes into Key West hotel pool area

KEY WEST, FL – Authorities said a police pursuit ended when a fleeing driver crashed into a hotel pool area in Key West.

According to NBC Miami, the chase began when a deputy spotted 31-year-old Asiel Diaz Valladares speeding at 86 miles an hour in the 35 mile an hour Key Deer Zone shortly before 11:30 p.m. Wednesday night.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said other deputies tried to stop the van at various times but halted their efforts for safety reasons as Diaz Valladares kept driving at speeds over 80 miles an hour.

After Key West police joined the pursuit on U.S. 1, Diaz Valladares drove through the Triangle entrance to Key West and crashed through a fence of the Hilton Garden Inn Key West.

The vehicle went over trees and a jacuzzi, before smashing into a hotel pavilion. Diaz Valladares was apprehended after trying to hide in the hotel bushes and was transported to Jackson South Medical Center, officials said. No details were released on his injuries.  He was expected to face charges following his release from the hospital.

No other injuries were reported in the crash.
