LIGHTHOUSE POINT, FL - A fatal car accident on North Federal Highway in Lighthouse Point is under investigation, the Broward Sheriff's Office said.

Investigators say 60-year-old David Jensen of Pompano Beach was driving a Ford Mustang southbound on Aug. 27 when the incident took place shortly before 8:30 p.m.  According to the BSO, Jensen lost control of the car after driving through a patch of water and veered to the southwest.  The vehicle crossed several lanes, hit a curb and jumped a sidewalk where it struck a concrete utility pole and a wooden pole.

Jensen was trapped inside the car and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The BSO Traffic Homicide Unit is investigating and considers excessive speed to have been a contributing factor in the wreck.

Witnesses told detectives that Jensen was driving aggressively before the crash, including weaving in and out of traffic. Results of toxicology tests are pending.
