News: Police arrest driver for Royal Palm Beach bus stop crash that killed 2 students

ROYAL PALM BEACH, FL – Authorities have made an arrest in connection with a crash at a Palm Beach County school bus stop last month that killed two teenagers, WPTV reports.

This is an update to a previous story.

The incident occurred March 22 at Crestwood Boulevard South and Cypress Lake Drive in Royal Palm Beach.  Authorities said 57-year-old Angel Antonio Lopez lost control while driving an Alfa Romero Stelvio, drove onto a sidewalk, and hit four high school students as they were waiting for their school bus.

Two 15-year-old students, a boy and a girl, died in the crash, while two other students were injured.

Lopez was arrested Wednesday on multiple charges, including vehicular homicide, DUI manslaughter, and driving under the influence causing serious bodily injury.

The sheriff’s office said toxicology tests showed that Lopez had a prescription sleeping pill in his system, temazepam, in an amount over four times the legal limit.  He showed indications of impairment following the incident, officials said.
