The incident happened Aug. 11 in the area of Northwest 43rd Street and Northwest 5th Avenue, where deputies arrived shortly after 6 p.m. and found that a 2-year-old child had been struck by a vehicle.  The child was hospitalized with injuries that were not life-threatening.

Detectives with the sheriff’s office released two surveillance videos of the vehicle involved in the incident, and after numerous tips from the public, the driver was identified as 60-year-old Kimberly Mathis of North Lauderdale.

Mathis was arrested at her home on Thursday and taken to the Broward Sheriff’s Office’s Main Jail. She faces a charge of failing to stop/remain at an accident involving injury.
