DEERFIELD BEACH, FL - The Broward County Sheriff's Office is investigating a crash that killed a motorcyclist in Dania Beach.

In a news release, the sheriff's office identified the victim as 52-year-old Joseph Babin III of Port St. Lucie. He was riding a Honda Shadow motorcycle on Griffin Road last Thursday when the accident occurred at about 4:50 a.m.  According to investigators, Babin was riding through the intersection with Interstate 95 when he was struck by a Chevrolet Blazer turning left from Griffin Road onto I-95.

Babin was ejected from the bike and was taken by first responders to Memorial Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the Blazer, 46-year-old Brian Belmonti of Hollywood, stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators.

Witnesses told authorities the motorcycle had a steady red light signal. The sheriff's office said evidence indicates excessive speed did not contribute to the crash.
