NORTH LAUDERDALE, FL - A fatal crash in North Lauderdale earlier this month is under investigation by the Broward Sheriff's Office.

In a news release, the BSO said the victim was 40-year-old Lorenzo Torres of Margate.  According to investigators, Torres was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe on West McNab Road Sept. 3 when the accident occurred shortly after midnight.

Torres steered to the right to follow the curve of the road and lost control of the vehicle, the sheriff's office said.  The Tahoe went off the roadway and then hit a metal chain-link fence and a concrete lamp pole .

BSO deputies and North Lauderdale Fire Rescue responded, and Torres was pronounced dead at the scene. A juvenile passenger with him was hospitalized with injuries that were not life-threatening.

The Broward Sheriff's Office Traffic Homicide Unit is investigating the wreck, and said excessive speed is being considered as a contributing factor.
