LAUDERHILL, FL - A man was fatally struck by a car in Lauderhill late Wednesday night while trying to help a fellow driver, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports.

The victim was identified as 41-year-old Erick Veilleux. Police said Veilleux parked his car in a northbound lane of North State Road 7 and went to a gas station to get gas for another motorist who was stranded.

As he returned, police said Veilleux was hit by a southbound Honda on State Road 7 near Northwest 26th Street at about 11 p.m.  Veilleux was found in the roadway by police and was pronounced dead after being transported to Broward Health North.

The driver of the Honda remained at the crash scene.  Investigators said there were indications that speed may have been a contributing factor in the incident.
