News: Man arrested in Deerfield Beach crash that killed motorcyclist

DEERFIELD BEACH, FL – A man was arrested last week on criminal charges in connection with the death of a motorcyclist in Broward County in January.

According to a news release from the Broward County Sheriff’s Office, 35-year-old Steven Gabriel Seneca of Coral Springs was taken into custody for the Jan. 30 accident on Southwest 10th Street in Deerfield Beach.

Investigators determined that Seneca was driving a Dodge Charger Hellcat and was engaged in a street race with the motorcyclist. The vehicles reached speeds of over 130 mph in a 45 mph zone and made aggressive lane changes while maneuvering through traffic, the sheriff’s office said. The motorcyclist, whose name was withheld, went off the road and crashed into a fence near Waterways Boulevard.  He was thrown from the bike and pronounced dead later at a nearby hospital.

Further investigation revealed that Seneca had a 5-year-old child with him in the car at the time of the crash.

Seneca was arrested on Tuesday and booked into the Broward Sheriff’s Office Main Jail on multiple charges, including vehicular homicide, child abuse, racing and reckless driving.
