News: Elderly pedestrian dies after being struck by pickup truck in Deerfield Beach

DEERFIELD BEACH, FL – Authorities are investigating the death of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle in Deerfield Beach.

The Broward County Sheriff’s Office issued a news release on the July 10th incident that claimed the life of 77-year-old James Davis of Broward County.

Investigators said Davis was trying to walk across West Hillsboro Boulevard from north to south at about 11 a.m. when he was hit by a Nissan Titan pickup truck.  Davis was knocked to the ground and transported to Broward Health North, where he died of his injuries on July 14.

The sheriff’s office identified the pickup driver as 37-year-old Carlos Cordoba of Coconut Creek and said he had the right of way at the time.

Detectives said he stopped and remained on the scene after the crash, and cooperated with investigators.  Excessive speed is not considered to have been a contributing factor in the accident.
